It’s been a while since we watched American Splendor but that doesn’t mean we can’t shoe-horn in a follow-up in a month devoted to documentaries. Johnny spends the time believing R. Crumb is dead all along, and Andrew wonders as ever why he even does this.
120 - ROGER & ME
Welcome Michael Moore to doc month, the duo watch his first feature and examine Flint, Michigan as a tourist location, a home of some of the worst human atrocities in the western hemisphere and a sheriff’s deputy that seems to be the Brundlefly of Lionel Ritchie and Paulie from the Rocky franchise.
119 - THE ARISTOCRATS
Andrew takes Johnny on a comedic journey through an old joke that barely has a punch-line in an episode full of them. Take heed when Ringo Starr drops by to chat, and both hosts attempt to tell their own versions of The Aristocrats.
118 - THE KING OF KONG: A FISTFUL OF QUARTERS
Documentary January begins with 2 players fighting for dominance, and Johnny uses the c-word a lot when discussing one Billy Mitchell. It’s boss-level insane here.
117 - 2018 - A YEAR IN REVIEW
Johnny and Andrew look back over the last year of the podcast, the highs and the lows, and Johnny can’t stop talking about that trip to Nashville he took. So Andrew naturally annoys him constantly over it.
116 - CLERKS II
A long talk about Kevin Smith and Andrew remembers his teen years before watching the so-far-final in the franchise movie.
115 - A TOWN CALLED PANIC
To cleanse the soul from the previous film, Andrew shows Johnny what insanity is in the form of Belgian animation and origin of film-quiz-winning team name A Town Called Panic.
114 - MARY & MAX
Andrew brings up a film that genuinely makes him cry in an effort to turn Johnny into a sniveling mess, Johnny is prepared for a weird, creepy, Tim Burton style movie instead.
BONUS - NIGHTSHOOTERS DIRECTOR MARC PRICE
Escaping the clutches of the usual recording studio, Andrew and Johnny sit down with the director of upcoming action thriller Nightshooters to talk phoned-in choreography, the C-word and making audiences react. You can see Nightshooters now on DVD and Blu-Ray and on Amazon Prime Video!
113 - HOCUS POCUS
Johnny takes centre stage as film programmer for this Halloween edition of the podcast, opting for a beloved classic neither host has seen over a horror movie. The witching hour is upon us all.
112 - CHOPPER
Bloody Andrew makes Johnny bloody watch a movie he knows bloody nothing about, and Johnny finishes his London Film Festival report in a bloody episode about bloody a lot of bloody things, right.
111 - I HEART HUCKABEES
Andrew pleas for the connection of everything in Johnny’s nihilistic world, as Danny Dyer pops in to present a BBC documentary on his favourite movies.
110 - QUIZ SHOW
During an exciting late-night recording, Johnny discovers the power to sleep despite energy drinks, and we all take a dive with Ralph not Ralph Fiennes.
109 - DELICATESSEN
The result of our listener competition, Andrew and Johnny sit down with acclaimed French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet to watch his 1991 comedy horror. The group discover why Andrew handles the curation process.
108 - KATY PERRY: PART OF ME 3D
Johnny takes the reigns at the end of Music Month with one of his recent favourites, IN 3D!!!! Andrew learns things about Katy Perry, like she is a singer, and also she is a human being, and Johnny tries not to cry.
107 - TALKING HEADS - STOP MAKING SENSE
The most musical movie yet, Johnny longs for something with actual talking heads, and definitely not a concert film, whilst Andrew ignites the joy and love of David Byrne all over. This is a once in a lifetime episode.
106 - THE ROLLING STONES - GIMME SHELTER
Andrew and Johnny head to Altamont for an explosion of hippies, peace, love and Hell’s Angels. Johnny isn’t big on The Stones, and Andrew mainly spends his time wanting more violence. It’s a sadistic week all over.
105 - BOB DYLAN - DONT LOOK BACK
Music Month begins with a look back at, erm, no, a look to the past, yeah, of Bob Dylan and his time in England. Bob comes to the studio to explain himself and his hatred of journalists, and we all wish we could watch Donovan instead.
104 - PIRANHA 3D
Andrew brings Johnny a gnarly slice of gory horror, and Johnny understands what The Meg could have been in a JAWSOME podcasting event.
103 - THE WACKNESS
Andrew brings out the hot, sweaty late-summer indie gem with Sir Ben Kingsley rapping, and Johnny learns a lesson in hip-hop, and Mary-Kate Olsen for good measure.
